Over the past two decades, I’ve had the privilege of working at the intersection of enterprise growth and operational transformation initiatives. As I look back at what has worked, what hasn't and what could be better, I cannot help but draw some parallels to what we are now witnessing with the rise of AI.

While the levers of transformation have evolved, the core principles remain remarkably consistent. The dialogue around the 'Holy Grail' of value creation has shifted — from labor arbitrage, to geo diversification, to NLP, data lakes, IBM Watson, RPA, cloud, SaaS, GenAI, and now agentic AI. All of this has unfolded against the backdrop of smartphone ubiquity, IoT expansion, and increasingly connected systems.

Technology has fundamentally changed where, how, and how often we consume, share, and engage with information. And yet, despite this phenomenal wave of innovation, successful transformation still relies on timeless fundamentals:

  • End-to-end understanding of operational processes

  • Identification of opportunity hot spots

  • A 360° view of stakeholders and their priorities

  • Rigorous ROI analysis and prioritization

  • Thoughtful planning, scenario modeling, and change management

  • Relentless tracking, feedback loops, and execution agility

In many ways, both the technological evolutions and these enduring principles have served as building blocks, preparing us to lead through the next wave: AI-enabled transformation.

I believe we’re standing at the edge of something truly disruptive. But success won’t come from hype. It will require thoughtful design, honest dialogue, and shared learning.

To that end, I’m kicking off a new series: “Artificial Intelligence, Real Impact.” In the coming posts, I’ll explore how to separate the signal from the noise and unpack the realities of applying AI in complex operational environments - from early roadblocks and real-world pitfalls to practical breakthroughs and leadership reflections. I’ll share lessons learned, success stories, tough questions, and candid observations with the goal of sparking thoughtful conversation among practitioners, skeptics, builders, and the endlessly curious.
